Hanoi Bar Association Receives and Meets with Representatives of the Taipei Bar Association
On 23 November 2022, Lawyer Raymond Yu — Head of the Taipei Bar Association — visited and met with the Hanoi Bar Association. Receiving and meeting with Mr. Raymond Yu were Lawyer Huynh Phuong Nam (Vice-President), Lawyer Nguyen Xuan San (Vice-President), Lawyer Pham Thanh Binh (Board member), Lawyer Nguyen Mai Anh (Board member), Lawyer Hoang Minh Hien (Deputy Head of the International Relations Committee), together with lawyers of the association. The association was also honored to welcome Mr. Lam Hai, Legal Attaché of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Vietnam.
On the occasion of this visit — which coincided with the 38th anniversary of the Hanoi Bar Association — Lawyer Raymond Yu extended his best wishes to the association. He noted that the Taipei Bar Association has more than 7,000 member lawyers out of a total of 10,000 across the 11 provincial bar associations of the Taiwan Bar Association, and that Taiwan has established legal-assistance mechanisms for foreign nationals of five countries, including Vietnam. The Taipei Bar Association is interested in the investment activities of Taiwanese enterprises in Vietnam and of Vietnamese enterprises in Taiwan, in which lawyers of both associations could provide legal services. Lawyer Raymond Yu therefore expressed the wish to establish a channel of connection and a working plan to build a cooperative relationship between the two associations, facilitating future visits by the Taipei Bar Association to Vietnam and welcoming the Hanoi Bar Association to Taipei in the future.
In response, Lawyer Huynh Phuong Nam thanked Mr. Raymond Yu and the Taipei Bar Association for their goodwill, highly appreciated the purpose of the visit, and introduced the structure and members of the Hanoi Bar Association, the forms of legal services provided by its lawyers, and Vietnam’s legal provisions on legal-aid activities in which the association’s lawyers participate.
Mr. Lam Hai, Legal Attaché of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, congratulated the Hanoi Bar Association on its founding anniversary, expressed support for the cooperative aims of the two associations, and pledged to assist this endeavor.
To thank the Hanoi Bar Association for its warm reception, Lawyer Raymond Yu, on behalf of the Taipei Bar Association, presented a souvenir bearing the name of the Taipei Bar Association and symbolizing the three roles in Taiwan’s judicial system — judge, prosecutor and lawyer. On behalf of the Hanoi Bar Association, Lawyer Huynh Phuong Nam and the lawyers presented Mr. Raymond Yu with a Ngoc Lu bronze drum — a symbol of Vietnam’s 2,500 years of history (engraved with the name of the Hanoi Bar Association) — as a gift of friendship, in the hope that the two associations would take further steps in their cooperation.
